If you have any doubts about how to pack crockery for moving house, here are the precautions and tips, recommended by our packaging service, that you should consider.
You should not use newspaper to store your crockery. When you wrap fragile items in newspaper, the ink from the newspaper often seeps into the items and ruins them.
If you don’t know how to pack cups, how to pack plates, how to pack glasses or how to pack bowls… You should never use newspaper. Instead, you should use wrapping paper, as it is the ideal material for packing tableware. When you crumple the paper, you not only protect the item, you also create small air spaces.
How to pack the dishes for moving?
To store the crockery correctly, foremost, it is not suitable to tape the middle part of the flaps of the box. Instead, you should tape the flap parts several times, then tape along the centre of the box in the opposite direction, creating a plus sign.
Then tape the edges of these pieces of tape along the side of the box. This will make the whole thing more secure and stable.
To make a cushion, roll up some wrapping paper and place a good layer, about three or four inches, on top. Start with the heaviest things first; the plates, which you should pack each one separately.
When you have all the dishes packed, place each plate upright in the box, each one resting on the other. This is perfect, so they don’t move around in the box. Once you have finished, add wrapping paper to the sides and then on top.
Continue with the bowls, inserting the corner of a sheet of paper into the bowl and then crumpling the paper around the rest of the bowl, one bowl at a time. When you have them, place them like plates, one on top of the other, so that they don’t bump against each other during the move.
Because they are the lightest and most fragile, it is recommended that glass cups and glasses are packed last. Wrap them similarly to the bowls, with some packing paper inside and the rest folded around.
Tips recap for a successful move:
- It is very important to pack each object separately
- It is best to use wrapping paper, such as that used by our packing service. If you want to reinforce the resistance, also use bubble wrap on objects that you consider to be more delicate.
- Newsprint can work, although you run the risk of it staining your crockery and then having to clean each piece.
- Use strong boxes.
- Fill all the holes in the boxes with wrapping paper.
- Label the boxes with the legendary phrase: “VERY FRAGILE” for easy identification.
